A gift of a 110 pocket camera turned out to be a life-long project. At an early age I realized that recording pictures was a way to copy moments of my life that I didn’t want to forget. My camera brought back birthdays, my camera got me outside, slowed time and shared memories with friends. Those playground snapshots led to photography school, which led to a degree in photojournalism, then on to art school; where ultimately I’m charged with the responsibility of incorporating all three disciplines. This year I will be donating 2% of all proceeds from weddings I photograph to The Bonneville Environmental Foundation. The 2% will be split between two products that BEF offers, Carbon Offsets and Water Restoration Certificates. It is my goal to become an active partner with BEF in the years ahead to reduce my impact on the environment as much as possible. Carbon Offsets represent the capture or reduction of harmful greenhouse gases emitted from sources such as fossil fuels, animal waste, landfills or refrigerants. A carbon offset represents the reduction of greenhouse gases equivalent to 1 metric ton of carbon dioxide. WRCs restore water to a stream at a location and time of year where low flows are a limiting factor for fish and wildlife, biodiversity or ecosystem function. One BEF Water Restoration Certificate represents 1,000 gallons of water restored to a critically dewatered river or stream.
